Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

Will be accountable for preparing engineering drawings from sketches or engineering information, budget, schedule and technical quality of assigned routine design tasks. Your duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Gain familiarity with the client's expectations, scope, budget and schedule for assigned tasks
  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly
  • Utilize BIM software to provide layouts, general arraignments, profile views, and details
  • * Provide guidance to less experienced designer / drafters
  • * Coordinate work activities with other staff members and the discipline lead
  • * Produce equipment specifications with engineering review and approval
  • * Produce electrical installation specifications with engineering review and approval
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup
  • Draft installation details, single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, control panel layouts and grounding, lighting, power plans

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge and application of the National Electrical Code
  • Knowledge and application of relevant codes and standards such as the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), etc.
  • Knowledge of electrical construction materials, components, and practices
  • Familiarity with and application of engineering design and CADD drafting standards
  • * Knowledge and application of Article 500, Hazardous (Classified) Locations
  • Able to perform zonal cavity and point-to-point lighting level calculations
  • Able to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications
  • Able to perform voltage drop calculations
  • Able to route conduit and cable tray
  • Able to calculate tray fill
  • Able to determine distribution, branch panel, and motor control center loading
  • Familiarity with specification and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment
  • Able to develop electrical installation specifications
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings
  • Knowledge and understanding of work flow/information flow between disciplines
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables
  • Able to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks
  • Able to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and an effort hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project

Skills:

  • Proficient in Revit and 2D AutoCAD or Microstation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Mail, Word, Excel, OneNote, and Access
  • * Familiarity of power modeling software (EasyPower, SKM, ETAP)
  • Familiarity with a third party lighting design software package
  • Good listening, writing and communication skills
  • Good presentation skills

Education:

  • High School
  • Two Year Technical Degree or Four Year Non-Technical Degree Preferred
