Job Description:

Performs advanced electrical and mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of treatment facilities including water/wastewater plants and lift stations plants. This position is responsible for the support of complex electrical, electronic control and mechanical systems, providing technical service on and maintenance of lift stations and equipment and water/wastewater treatment plants. At times it will be necessary to work unscheduled overtime to restore services. Position will require employee to take part in a rotating emergency call out schedule and be accountable for responding to and properly handling all after hour incidents during that time. Work is reviewed in progress and/or upon completion.


  • Performs skilled electrical installation, alteration, inspection, maintenance, repair, and service of lift stations and treatment facilities.
  • Perform scheduled Corrective and Preventative Maintenance on mechanical, electrical, structural wiring and electronic equipment.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and calibrate mechanical, instrumentation, electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical equipment and systems, electric motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, fuse boxes and lighting equipment. Run conduit, pull and size wire and components.
  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace pumps, gear boxes, and various mechanical equipment related to the operation of water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, lift stations, and other facilities. Assist Lift Station Mechanic in repair and/or replacement of lift station electrical motor panels and radio telemetry units as needed.
  • Maintain, repair, and adjust pumps and pump control systems including VFD's, soft starts, and pump control valves. Install, maintain, repair, calibrate, and troubleshoot telemetry, communication systems, and control systems, including PLC's, relay logic, SCADA systems, and HMI. Knowledge of the telemetry systems and electronic hardware involved in control systems.
  • Install, repair, troubleshoot and maintain power generation systems including generators, transfer switches and batteries.
  • Program and operate a variety of complex electronic testing equipment to ensure accuracy of diagnosis and repair. Maintains equipment and tools in working order.
  • Makes visual inspections to determine proper repair, service, and maintenance completion of station and treatment plant mechanical and electrical apparatus.
  • Use a computer to access the electronic work order and asset management system (CMMS) as it relates to maintenance and repair of electrical systems and associated equipment. Keep maintenance and repair records up-to-date. Ability to communicate effectively with management and other team members.
  • Ability to determine quality of work and compliance with national Electrical Code and other department standards.
  • May drive a company vehicle and is responsible for appearance, maintenance and organization of vehicle and tool inventory.
  • Follows all Safety Rules, procedures and PPE practices.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • (5) or more years progressively responsible experience in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of electrical/mechanical equipment and related apparatus in water, wastewater and lift station operations

  • Must have a clean/valid Florida driver's license

  • Highly prefer a Licensed Journeyman Electrician.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools used in electrical and electronic components installation, maintenance and repair work.
