Job Description

Operator-in-Training

3 Months contract to hire

Gilroy, CA 95020

7am - 3:30pm

M-F

***** Must have a valid driver's license / clean MVR

Will train as this is an entry level role. Looking for someone to begin a career in water treatment

Responsibilities:
Performs any combinations of following tasks pertinent to controlling operation of plant:

  • Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/ wastewater, sludge, and effluent
  • Operate farm tractors with various tillage implements
  • Must be able to move from screen to screen on the SCADA control system to monitor plant operations and to control the plant Monitors gauges, meters, and on remote control panels
  • Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings
  • Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control
  • Starts and stops pump, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
  • Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings
  • Input data into computerized database and/or spreadsheet software programs to document plant operations
  • Takes samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses
  • Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
  • Makes operating decisions in absence of supervisory personnel •
  • Does related work as required

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles
  • Must be able to walk up to 3 miles throughout the plant site per 8 hour shift
  • Must be able to ascend and descend up to 2,000 stair steps per 8 hour shift
  • Must be able to bend and squat frequently to collect samples and to maintain and calibrate equipment.
