Job Description


  • The Pilot Plant Technician will provide support to the Basic Plastic Polyethylene business via operation of the High Pressure Polyethylene R&D Pilot Plants.

  • The incumbent will work directly with engineers, scientists, leaders, and other technicians to ensure safe and proficient operation of the plants to deliver product samples and process information as requested in the planned experiments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follows Operating Discipline principles, procedures and practices to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas.

  • Operates and field checks process equipment.

  • Monitor process conditions, equipment and control systems.

  • Writes permits to enable plant support activities to take place. Does not include high energy or hot work permits.

  • Performs tasks assigned to operations as per Master Task List. E.g. Field checks, equipment preparation, samples, etc. - Uses trouble shooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems.

  • As required, initiates and participates in Root Cause Investigations.

  • Engages in safety focus teams and drives safety culture to achieve a work environment where there are ZERO injuries and environment insults.

  • Coaches and train others on plant operations.

  • Performs process upset/crisis response activities assigned by Operation Coaches.

  • Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and Operating discipline.

  • Includes creating and improving job procedures.

  • Monitors, collects and inputs plant metrics for Statistical Process Control (S.P.C.), asset utilization, conversion costs, production yields and identify opportunities for plant optimization.

  • Perform process equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance, utilizing appropriate processes and disciplines.
